The mission of this free Google tool is to manage "a classroom" collaboratively and online. It is a learning management platform or Learning Management System. In this note we show you the steps to carry out some basic tasks.
Google Classroom is a tool created by Google in 2014, totally free and that allows you to manage classes in the educational field, for 100% distance learning.
It is an ideal tool for this time when physical contact or approach is not possible. It is designed to organize subjects, create documents, share content, schedule meetings and much more between teachers and students.
Google Classroom works directly related to Gmail accounts, so it is necessary to have one created for this application. The platform is available in its desktop or app version.
The steps indicated below are through the mobile application but the interface is identical in the web version, so there should be no inconvenience to take these steps as references.
The first thing we are going to cover in this guide is the login to the platform. It is possible to do it from the website: classroom.google.com or from the application on the cell phone (previously download it), by entering the Gmail account that you will use to work.
If we are going to create a class, in the role of teacher, it is necessary to click on the sign (+) that is in the upper right margin of the screen and select this option.
Then you must choose whether or not to use the tool on behalf of a school with students. If so, you have to create a free Gsuite account. Otherwise, you must agree to have read the notice and continue the process.
Then a screen with four fields will appear, to be completed with the following data: Class name, Section, Classroom and Subject. Once they are completed, the "Create" option must be selected.
In order for students to join the created class, it is possible to do so from the "People" option, inviting them through their email addresses ("Students" / Add section) or providing them with the class code that the application generated automatically. .
From the generated class, if the wheel is selected in the upper right margin of the screen, the class code also appears in the "General" section.
It is possible to edit the class code in case there is any problem, for example a student signs up for this class and should not have done so. To make the change, in the same section mentioned above, you must choose the three points and select the option "Reset the class code".
It is valid to clarify that from this section it is also possible to configure the news, among the existing options are: that students can comment and publish content, that they can only comment or that only teachers can comment and publish.
Once the class was created if you enter the option “Works”, it is possible to carry out the following activities:
Task: From here you can upload files, add a description, a title, assign points for completing the task, set the delivery date and time, among other options.
Question: You can make inquiries to students and select the response format you want to receive.
Material: In this option it is possible to add content and add a title and description.
Theme: Through this section it is possible to create and organize each of the themes to organize the publications.
Reuse Post: Used to put a post in the past into reminder mode.
Here is an example of what a class created with the options seen would look like:
If the student role platform is used, the symbol (+) and the option "Join a class" must be selected.
To achieve this we obviously need the invitation sent by the teacher to our email or the class code, which must be entered when requested.
Once you have entered the class it is possible to see all the publications that the teacher has made. For example, you can answer the question you have asked, publicly or privately, and see the responses of classmates.
It is necessary to consider that if the teacher set a deadline to do it, it must be respected or that it will be delayed with the delivery, which may possibly be reflected in the final score.
The job can be uploaded from Drive, a file already created, take a photo, record, etc.
When the content is loaded, select "Deliver" and you can add a comment or private clarification.
Once the work is delivered, the teacher receives an email informing him of this fact.
Once the work has been delivered, if necessary, you can Cancel the delivery and send it again with the appropriate corrections.
Grade the tasks requested of the students
The teacher will receive emails every time the students complete the requested task. You will be able to see the attached file, rate it and make a written return in the comments section.
Once the evaluation of the work has been carried out, the student will receive his note by email or he may consult it in the panel of the app.
To "roll list", the teacher must go to the "People" options and choose the icon of the four cubes. Below is the list of students where you can check if each of them is absent or if it is necessary to call them later to remind them of the class.
