WhatsApp has just added a new proposal to improve the privacy of its users and reduce the continuous storage of conversation messages.
This time it is about the "temporary predetermined messages" function, an adjustment in the configuration of the app that users will be able to establish for new individual or group chats, with a predetermined duration for them.
This new option is presented as a more powerful proposal than the one incorporated last year, of messages that self-destruct after a certain time. In addition, until now, this function had to be activated chat by chat, a situation that does not occur with the new proposal, since from the moment the predetermined temporary messages are activated, new conversations will be configured to disappear automatically in the chosen period, which can be: 24 hours or, the great novelty of two new durations: a week or 90 days.
The adjustment can be made by any user and participant of the chats and is accompanied by a message notifying of this fact. In the case of group chats, he or any of the administrators can activate it.
In both cases, an icon with a stopwatch will appear in the profile photo.
Obviously, this setting has certain limitations, considering that any user can take a screenshot, take photos or forward messages before they disappear, the same situation as ephemeral content (videos and photos that disappear after being seen once, see note: One-time viewing of photos and videos on WhatsApp ).
The function, for individual chats, is activated as follows:
- Enter WhatsApp Settings or Settings.
- Then to Account>> Privacy.
- Next, choose the Default Duration option, and select the preference option >> 24 hours, 7 days or 90.
