Until now the options that the messaging service gives to silence contacts or groups are 8 hours, 1 week or 1 year and when the time comes (after 365 days) the notifications of the groups return again. For this reason WhatsApp in its beta version already has the option to mute the groups “forever”.
In it you can see the alternatives of 8 hours, 1 week and replacing 1 year, the option "forever".

How to mute contacts or groups?
- Enter WhatsApp.
- Check the Chats window.
- Mark the chat with the contact or group you want to mute until it is selected.
- Tap the speaker icon on the top right edge and choose the time you want to mute that contact or group.
- Then decide whether or not you want to see notifications.
- And finally give OK to confirm.
Another option is within the same conversation thread, select in the three points in the upper right margin and go to mute notifications.
